Electron-Diffraction Study on an Amorphous Al-V Alloy Produced by Electron Irradiation of Quasicrystalline Al-16 at-%V
نویسندگان
چکیده
Quasicrystalline Al-16 at-%V was transformed to the amorphous state by low-temperature electron irradiation in a high-voltage electron microscope. Electron diffraction experiments were carried out in the amorphous state and in the crystalline state obtained after subsequent heat treatment. From the results the total structure factor was determined. The pair correlation function was calculated which yields the radii of the different coordination spheres and the total coordination number. The results are discussed in terms of current topological models of the structure of metallic glasses.

Microstructural evolution in Al–Cu–Fe quasicrystalline thin films
Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was performed to study the microstructural evolution in Al–Cu–Fe quasicrystalline thin films. Thin films were grown by magnetron sputtering on sodium chloride crystals, which were subsequently dissolved in water to acquire free-standing films. Studies were conducted on the as-deposited sample, and samples that were annealed at 400 8C in Argon and 500 8C in...
متن کاملMicrostructure and Grain Refining Performance of a New Al-Ti-C Master Alloy (RESEARCH NOTE)
Control of microstructure parameters that affecting the Al-Ti-C master alloys grain refining efficiency is leading to improve the aluminum grain refinement. This study was an attempt to produce Al-Ti-C master alloys that provide these controlling factors with relying on the solute effect theory. The produced master alloys were examined by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispers...
متن کاملQuasicrystal Formation in the system Zr75-xTixCu25-yNiy
During the crystallization study of the bulk metallic glass Zr46.8Ti8.2Cu7.5Ni10Be27.5 (Vit4) we have demonstrated that the primary crystals appearing during isothermal annealing in the glass region, above Tg and before Tx, were of quasicrystalline nature and beryllium free. The formula of the quasicrystalline phase so obtained and determined by electron techniques (EDX and EELS) was Zr63Ti14.4...

The MIT Faculty has made this article openly available. Please share how this access benefits you. Your story matters. Al-Mn alloys with Mn content ranging from 0 to 15.8 at.% are prepared by electrodeposition from an ionic liquid at room temperature, and exhibit a remarkably broad range of structures. The alloys are characterized through a combination of techniques, including x-ray diffraction...
متن کاملThe Effect of Cross-Rolling Process on Nanostructure of Al 1050 Alloy
The cross-rolling is a new process that results in significant evolutions in microstructure of the metallic sheets. In this study, an aluminium 1050 sheet was rolled up to 95% reduction in cross directions for ten passes. The rolled samples were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The rolled samples possess a high dislocation density and ultra-fin...
